Anglesey Abbey Gardens (Sunday Jan. 30th)

About 40 minutes north of Cambridge by bicycle is an old abbey that is now a National Trust property.  It has a phenomenal garden.  What makes it special is that it shows well all year around.  The colour comes not just from the flowers, but also the colour of the shrubs, their stems, and especially, the juxtaposition of one versus the other. This is a garden that you can visit week-to-week and it will look different each time.  It is our first garden since being here this time.  This is positively laid-back compared to when we last lived here, where visiting 6 National Trust gardens a weekend was not unusual.  That was when Liz taught Bill that gardens are about design, not flowers, and that there was a history, and different schools of design, just as there is in art.

En Route.  Bill is pumping up his front tire under a giant bike on the  bike trail.
A view of the Abbey (in the sunshine, we might add), from the front.
The Abbey from the other side, with beautiful espaliering up the side wall. Bill just soaking up the view. The rest of the images are pretty self-explanatory, so we will let them speak for themselves.
